Buenos Aires was designated World Capital of Sport 2027 by ACES, at a ceremony held in Rome in May 2025. The Argentine capital prevailed over Porto Gaia (Portugal) in the final candidacy stage.

The city, which hosted the Youth Olympic Games in 2018, has over 190 municipal sports facilities and community physical activity programmes across all its neighbourhoods. The Monumental Stadium, with a capacity of over 84,000 spectators, is the largest in Latin America.

The designation recognises Buenos Aires' sporting trajectory and its commitment to sport as a tool for social inclusion and citizen wellbeing.
