About the city
Alassio is a coastal town in the province of Savona, in Liguria, one of the most famous destinations of the Riviera di Ponente, the Ligurian coast west of Genoa. With some 10,000 inhabitants, it is famous for its long fine-sand beach — unusual on the rockier Ligurian coast — and for its mild climate, which from the 19th century made it a leading tourist destination, much appreciated also by British travellers. Its famous promenade and its 'Muretto', with tiles signed by celebrities, are emblems of the town. Its coast favours water and beach sports. Alassio was recognised by ACES Europe as European Town of Sport 2017, a title reserved for municipalities of fewer than 25,000 inhabitants, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
