Alba is a city in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont, capital of the Langhe wine region, a landscape of vineyard hills recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. With some 25,000 inhabitants, it is famous worldwide for its gastronomy — the white truffle of Alba and wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco — and for being home to the confectionery industry. Its setting of hills favours cycling and hiking among vineyards. Alba was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2013, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
