About the city

Albenga is a town in the province of Savona, in Liguria, on the Riviera di Ponente, located in the plain of the river Centa, one of the few coastal plains of mountainous Liguria. With some 17,000 inhabitants, it is famous for its notable medieval old town, dominated by its characteristic towers, which have earned it the nickname the 'city of a hundred towers', and for its rich market-garden agriculture. Its fertile plain and its coast link it to outdoor activities. Albenga was recognised by ACES Europe as European Town of Sport 2016, a title reserved for municipalities of fewer than 25,000 inhabitants, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
