About the city
Archeo Vesuvio is a territorial community in Campania that brings together several municipalities of the Vesuvian area, the zone surrounding Vesuvius, the famous volcano that dominates the Gulf of Naples and whose eruption in AD 79 buried Pompeii and Herculaneum. It is a territory of strong historical and archaeological identity, densely populated, between the volcano and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its geography — the Vesuvius National Park and the coast — is a natural space for hiking and outdoor activities. Archeo Vesuvio was recognised by ACES Europe as European Community of Sport 2020, a category reserved for territories that bring together several municipalities around sport, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
