About the city
Brindisi is a port city in the region of Apulia, in the heel of the Italian boot, facing the Adriatic Sea in the south of the peninsula. Its natural harbour, one of the best in the Adriatic, shaped its history from Antiquity: it was the end of the Roman Via Appia and a point of embarkation towards Greece and the East, a role it has maintained over the centuries as a maritime link with the Balkans and the eastern Mediterranean. With some 87,000 inhabitants, it combines its port and logistics vocation with the tourism of the Apulian coast. Brindisi was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2014, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
