About the city
Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia, the largest city on the island, located in the south, at the head of the broad Gulf of Angels, on the Mediterranean Sea. With almost 150,000 inhabitants, it has a notable historic centre — the Castello district, perched on high and surrounded by walls — and a long coastline, with the urban beach of Poetto as its emblem, next to lagoons where flamingos live. Its Mediterranean climate and seafront link it to water and outdoor sports. Cagliari was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2017, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
