About the city

Catanzaro is the capital of Calabria, at the southern tip of peninsular Italy, a city set on a hill between two valleys, very close to the Ionian Sea, at Italy's narrowest isthmus, where only a few kilometres separate the Ionian from the Tyrrhenian. With almost 80,000 inhabitants, it is the region's administrative centre and an inland city overlooking the Gulf of Squillace. Its nearby coast and Mediterranean climate link it to outdoor and water sports. Catanzaro was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2023, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
