About the city
Cavarzere is a municipality of the Metropolitan City of Venice, in Veneto, located approximately 35 kilometres southwest of the lagoon capital, on the broad alluvial plain crossed by the Adige River and an intricate network of canals. With around 12,700 inhabitants, the settlement has pre-Roman roots: its name derives from the Latin Caput Aggeris—'head of the embankment'—as it was the first settlement in the area with a dike system protecting the lowlands from river flooding. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, it served as a refuge for populations fleeing barbarian invasions, consolidating its strategic role in the Venetian plain.
In sporting terms, Cavarzere has committed to sport as a driver of social cohesion and quality of life, participating in the European Week of Sport and maintaining an active network of local associations dedicated to football, cycling, rowing, and athletics. In recognition of these efforts, ACES Europe has designated Cavarzere European Town of Sport 2028, an accolade validating its model of inclusive sports promotion and its commitment to physical activity for all segments of the community.
