About the city

Cosenza is a city in Calabria, in southern Italy, set in the valley of the river Crati, at the foot of the Sila plateau, one of the great mountain and forest massifs of the southern peninsula. With some 64,000 inhabitants, it has a notable old town — the 'Cosenza vecchia' — and a long cultural tradition that has earned it the nickname 'Athens of Calabria'. Its proximity to the Sila, now a National Park, links it to hiking, skiing and mountain sports. Cosenza was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2020, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
