About the city
Cuautitlán Izcalli is a municipality in the State of Mexico founded in 1973, conceived from the outset as a planned city integrated into the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico. With a population of approximately 555,000 residents, it is one of the youngest yet most populous municipalities in the State of Mexico. Its modern urban layout alternates residential areas, nationally significant industrial parks and important green and recreational spaces that encourage an active sporting lifestyle. The municipality's relative youth is reflected in well-planned municipal sports infrastructure, with sports units and public spaces designed for community sport — a factor that helps explain the active presence of its residents in the ACES Activa programme.
