Darfo Boario Terme is a town in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, located in the Val Camonica, an Alpine valley of the Lombard Alps famous for its prehistoric rock engravings, recognised by UNESCO. With almost 15,000 inhabitants, it is known for its thermal waters — the Terme di Boario — and for being a gateway to the mountains of the valley. Its Alpine setting favours hiking, cycling and mountain sports. Darfo Boario Terme was recognised by ACES Europe as European Town of Sport 2011, a title reserved for municipalities of fewer than 25,000 inhabitants, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
