About the city
El Dovio is the youngest municipality in Valle del Cauca, elevated to that status in 1956, and its indigenous name means 'surrounded by mountains' — a faithful reflection of its geography. At 1,400 metres on the eastern slope of the Western Andes, it harbours the Serranía de los Paraguas, a cloud forest of exceptional ecological value teeming with endemic birds. Its waterfalls, natural pools and mountain biking routes have established it as an adventure and ecotourism destination in the northern department.
