About the city
Facatativá is a municipality and city in the department of Cundinamarca, located 31 kilometers northwest of Bogotá at an altitude of 2,586 meters above sea level. With over 117,000 inhabitants, it is the second most populated city in the department after the capital and one of only six Cundinamarca municipalities exceeding 100,000 residents. The local economy is led by the export flower industry — one of the most significant in the Western Savanna — complemented by logistics, agro-industrial, and service activities linked to the Bogotá-Honda corridor. The municipality also hosts the Piedras del Tunjo Archaeological Park, a site of great heritage value featuring Muisca pictographs.
In sports terms, Facatativá has infrastructure and programs oriented toward mass physical activity practice, leveraging its strategic position on the Bogotá Savanna and the broad demand of its growing population. The city's participation in the ACES Activa program underscores the institutional commitment to active health as a vector of social development in a municipality that combines the economic weight of floriculture with the cultural diversity inherited from its Muisca past.
