About the city

Florida is a municipality in south-western Valle del Cauca, located 42 kilometres from Cali on the banks of the Fraile River, with an area of 413 km² and a population of 57,961 inhabitants. Founded on 22 September 1838 and originally known as Perodias, its status as a PDET municipality inscribes it in the Colombian peace process as a priority intervention territory, which has driven significant investments in infrastructure, rural development and institutional strengthening over the last decade.

The municipality is distinguished by exceptional climatic and landscape diversity: nine rivers traverse it, forming natural corridors from the warm Cauca River valley to the mountain moorlands, through temperate hillside climates. This water and environmental wealth underpins a growing ecotourism and adventure tourism offering — hiking, sport fishing, kayaking — as well as community physical activity programmes that connect citizens with their natural surroundings in the spirit of ACES América programmes.
