Foligno is a city in the province of Perugia, in Umbria, located in the plain of the Umbrian valley, in the geographic centre of the region, an important communications hub. With almost 57,000 inhabitants, it has a historic centre of medieval origin and is famous for the Giostra della Quintana, a spectacular historic equestrian tournament held in a Baroque re-enactment atmosphere. Located at the foot of the Umbrian Apennines, its setting favours hiking and cycling. Foligno was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2018, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
