About the city
Fossano is a town in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont, located in the plain between the rivers Stura and Maira, in the south-west of the region. With almost 19,000 inhabitants, it preserves a notable historic centre dominated by the Castle of the Acaja, an imposing medieval brick fortress. It is an agricultural and industrial municipality of the Cuneo plain, in a setting of fields with the Alps in the background. Fossano was recognised by ACES Europe as European Town of Sport 2011, a title reserved for municipalities of fewer than 25,000 inhabitants, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
