About the city
La Unión is the main urban centre of the northern subregion of Valle del Cauca, known by its inhabitants as 'La Ciudad Cívica' in recognition of the strong social fabric and community participation that characterise it. With over 34,000 inhabitants, it concentrates the administrative, commercial and health services of an extensive rural coffee-growing area. Its economy relies on coffee, plantain and trade, and its strategic position makes it a reference point for the surrounding municipalities of the northern department.
