About the city
Latina is the capital of the eponymous province, in Lazio, south of Rome, one of Italy's youngest cities: it was founded in 1932 under the name Littoria on the drained land of the Agro Pontino, the former marsh of the Paludi Pontine, with a rationalist urban layout characteristic of the era. With more than 76,000 inhabitants, it is an administrative and agricultural centre of the Pontine plain, near the Tyrrhenian coast and the Circeo National Park. Latina was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2014, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
