About the city
Monsummano Terme is a town in the province of Pistoia, in Tuscany, located in the plain of the Valdinievole, between Florence and Lucca, at the foot of the Montalbano hills. With almost 13,000 inhabitants, it is famous for its natural thermal baths, especially the Grotta Giusti, a thermal cave underground, and for its footwear industrial tradition. Its setting of plain and hills favours cycling and outdoor activities. Monsummano Terme was recognised by ACES Europe as European Town of Sport 2013, a title reserved for municipalities of fewer than 25,000 inhabitants, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
