About the city

Mosquera is a municipality of the Sabana de Bogotá, in the Provincia Sabana Occidente of the department of Cundinamarca, at a little over 2,500 metres of altitude and in direct contact with the Colombian capital. Its proximity to Bogotá has integrated it into the industrial and logistical corridor of the western savanna and turned it into one of the fastest-growing municipalities in the department, with a population of around 167,000 inhabitants according to DANE projections. That expansion, sustained by industry and services, defines a municipality that is young in its dynamics despite its long savanna history.

In just a few years, Mosquera has raised a striking sporting infrastructure for its size: a municipal stadium fitted out for Colombian professional football, a velodrome built to International Cycling Union (UCI) specifications and an indoor arena that has hosted international competition, in addition to a sports village, a swimming pool and a skatepark. That arena was the venue for the women's futsal World Cup, in which the Colombian national team was crowned champion before its home crowd.

In 2023, ACES América distinguished Mosquera as American City of Sport, a title that the network publishes in its own official register and that made the municipality the first in Cundinamarca and the second city in Colombia —after Cali— to obtain it. The distinction, framed within the Semana Americana del Deporte of that year, recognised the strong municipal investment in infrastructure and programmes, and inscribed Mosquera in the continental network of ACES.
