About the city
Obando is a municipality in northern Valle del Cauca bathed by the La Vieja river, which marks the natural boundary with the department of Quindío. Its riverside position has shaped a festive culture linked to the river, and its water activities are a recognised attraction of the subregion. The local economy is sustained by coffee, plantain and livestock farming, and the municipality maintains a strong paisa identity inherited from the Antioqueño colonisation that populated these fertile lands throughout the 19th century.
