Oristano is a city in Sardinia, capital of its province, located on the central-western coast of the island, near the eponymous gulf, on a fertile plain beside lagoons and wetlands. With just over 31,000 inhabitants, it has a historic centre of medieval origin and is famous for the Sartiglia, a spectacular equestrian race of secular tradition held at carnival. Its coast and wetlands favour water and outdoor sports. Oristano was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2019, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
