About the city
Parma is the second most populous city in Emilia-Romagna, with over 200,000 inhabitants, and one of northern Italy's foremost cultural, gastronomic and sporting references. Founded by the Romans in 183 BC along the Via Aemilia, it is home to two world-renowned Protected Geographical Indications — Prosciutto di Parma and Parmigiano Reggiano — and hosts the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). In 2020 it was named Italian Capital of Culture.
