About the city
Pesaro is a city in the Marche, capital of its province, located on the Adriatic coast, at the mouth of the river Foglia. With more than 77,000 inhabitants, it is famous for being the birthplace of the composer Gioachino Rossini, to whom it dedicates a prestigious opera festival, the Rossini Opera Festival, and it was Italian Capital of Culture 2024. Known as the 'city of the bicycle' for its extensive cycle network, its coastline and seafront promenade favour cycling and outdoor sports. Pesaro was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2017, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
