About the city
Piombino is a city in the province of Livorno, in Tuscany, located on a promontory at the southern end of the Etruscan Coast, opposite the island of Elba, of which it is the main port of departure. With some 34,000 inhabitants, it combines a long steelmaking tradition with its status as a port and gateway to the Tuscan archipelago. Its coast and its proximity to the islands link it to water and beach sports. Piombino was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2020, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
