About the city
Pisa is a city in Tuscany, capital of its province, located on the banks of the river Arno, near the Tyrrhenian coast. Famous worldwide for its Leaning Tower, the bell tower that rises in the Piazza dei Miracoli beside the cathedral and the baptistery, an ensemble that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was one of the four great medieval Italian maritime republics and is home to a prestigious historic university. With almost 90,000 inhabitants, its river setting and plain favour cycling and rowing. Pisa was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2016, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
