About the city

Poreč is a town on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, in Croatia, whose origins go back to a Roman castrum of the 2nd century BC that under Augustus became the colony of Parentium; its street plan still preserves the Roman Decumanus and Cardo Maximus. Its great monument is the 6th-century Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, and tourism, spread along 37 kilometres of coastline, is its main source of income. With close to 9,000 inhabitants in its urban area, the municipality reports 55 clubs, 36 disciplines and more than 3,800 registered athletes, and the ACES Europe commission visited the Žatika sports hall and programmes for children, older people and people with disabilities.
