With approximately 27,900 inhabitants — the majority in rural areas — and an area of 149.8 km², the municipality has a dual economy based on gold mining and coffee growing. Quinchía is home to a significant indigenous Emberá and campesino population, giving it a rich and diverse cultural identity marked by territorial resistance and the preservation of ancestral traditions.

From the perspective of physical activity and sport, Quinchía develops its offer primarily through rural community programs that make use of natural spaces and the social bonds typical of small mountain municipalities. Its participation in the ACES Activa program is an indicator of the inclusive reach of sports policies in Colombia, which integrate not only intermediate cities but also rural municipalities with significant indigenous and campesino populations.
