About the city

Rieti is the capital of its province, in Lazio, located in a fertile valley surrounded by mountains, in the geographic heart of Italy: near the city lies the point traditionally considered the exact centre of the peninsula, the so-called Umbilicus Italiae. With some 46,000 inhabitants, it preserves a notable medieval old town and is surrounded by the Apennines, with the Terminillo massif as its great landmark. Terminillo, one of the closest ski resorts to Rome, links the city to mountain and winter sports. Rieti was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2020, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
