About the city

Roldanillo is a municipality in northern Valle del Cauca with 36,797 inhabitants and an area of 217 km², recognised worldwide as the 'World Capital of Free Flight'. Founded in 1576 as Villa de Cáceres and re-founded in 1602 at its current location, the municipality was declared the First Magic Village of Valle del Cauca, combining valuable historical and artistic heritage with a globally projected sporting identity. Between December and March, the skies of Roldanillo receive more than 130 pilots from 33 countries, making the municipality the epicentre of international sports tourism.

The Copa de las Américas Paragliding and world championships held in Roldanillo have generated economic dynamism that triples the usual tourist flow, with estimated revenues of 2.9 million dollars during the 2026 season. This ecosystem of extreme sport and active tourism makes Roldanillo a continental benchmark for outdoor physical activity, positioning it among the most active cities in the ACES América programme in Valle del Cauca.
