About the city
Sabaudia is a coastal town in the province of Latina, in Lazio, one of the 'new towns' founded in the 1930s on the drained land of the Agro Pontino: it was inaugurated on 15 April 1934 and designed in barely 253 days, with a characteristic rationalist layout. With just over 19,000 inhabitants, it sits beside Lake Paola and the Tyrrhenian Sea, within the Circeo National Park. Its lake is a national centre of rowing and canoeing, where the Italian Olympic team and international squads train, and it has hosted world and European competitions. Sabaudia was recognised by ACES Europe as European Town of Sport 2022, a title reserved for municipalities of fewer than 25,000 inhabitants, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
