About the city
San Vittore Olona is a town in the metropolitan city of Milan, in Lombardy, located in the Alto Milanese, on the banks of the river Olona, north-west of the Lombard capital. With just over 8,000 inhabitants, it is a residential and industrial municipality of the dense Milanese outskirts. It is famous for hosting one of the oldest cross-country races in the world, the Cinque Mulini, which runs beside the historic mills of the Olona and gathers international athletes. San Vittore Olona was recognised by ACES Europe as European Town of Sport 2016, a title reserved for municipalities of fewer than 25,000 inhabitants, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
