About the city
Sanremo is a coastal city in the province of Imperia, in Liguria, on the Riviera di Ponente, very close to the border with France, the main city of the so-called Riviera dei Fiori (Riviera of Flowers). With some 47,000 inhabitants, it is famous throughout Italy for its Song Festival, its Liberty-style Casino and its flower-growing tradition. In sport it is the finish of Milan–San Remo, one of the great classics of world cycling. Its mild climate and coast link it to water and outdoor sports. Sanremo was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2018, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
