About the city
Santa Rosa de Copán is the capital of the Honduran department of Copán, nestled at 1,160 metres above sea level in the country's western highlands, with a population of approximately 61,800 residents. The city is recognized as Central America's most important coffee hub: its single-origin coffee — protected under the 'Western Honduras' denomination of origin — is grown between 1,100 and 1,600 metres altitude using Bourbon, Catuai and Caturra varieties. Beyond coffee, Santa Rosa is also a major artisanal tobacco producer, home to cigar factories whose products are exported worldwide. On the sports and community front, Parque El Cerrito is the focal point for physical activity and recreation, while the mountain climate and natural surroundings offer exceptional conditions for hiking, mountain biking and active tourism.
