About the city
Santiago, Chile's capital and economic heart, is a metropolis of more than 5 million inhabitants nestled between the grandeur of the Andes and the gentleness of the Coastal Range. Its position as the country's institutional and financial hub is equally reflected in sport: the city concentrates Chile's main sporting infrastructures, its most historic and best-supported clubs, and the governance bodies that shape national sport.
The Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos, the epicenter of Chilean sport since its construction, is more than just a sports venue: it is a national historical symbol and the centerpiece of the country's largest sports park, with 62 hectares integrating athletics, swimming, cycling and combat sports. Surrounding it, the city hosts Colo-Colo's Estadio Monumental, the renovated Claro Arena of Universidad Católica, and dozens of municipal venues covering the full spectrum of disciplines. This infrastructure density makes Santiago a recurring stage for continental and world-level competitions across multiple sports.
From the perspective of civic sport, Santiago has an explicit institutional commitment to the ACES America network. The Municipality's Director of Sport serves as vice president of the D+D Network, and the city hosted the official launch of the 2024 American Sports Week, marking its role as a Latin American reference for community sport. It is in that intersection between high-performance infrastructure and grassroots sport that Santiago's singular value as a strategic ACES America partner resides.
