About the city

Santuario is a municipality in the department of Risaralda, founded in 1906 and established as a municipality in 1907, located 64 kilometers from Pereira at an average altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level. With approximately 12,800 inhabitants and an economy sustained by coffee cultivation, sugar cane, and cattle ranching, Santuario occupies a privileged position in western Risaralda as a mountain municipality with a strong cultural and festive identity. Its principal natural distinction is serving as the gateway to the Tatamá National Natural Park, one of the best-preserved primary forest ecosystems of the Colombian Western Cordillera.

From a sport and physical activity perspective, Santuario develops community programs adapted to the reality of a rural municipality with privileged access to nature, where hiking, walking, and mountain sports complement traditional sporting practices. Its participation in the ACES Activa program projects at an Ibero-American level the commitment of small coffee-growing municipalities to physical activity as a pillar of public health and social cohesion.
