Savigliano is a town in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont, located in the fertile plain between the rivers Maira and Po, in the south-west of the region. With almost 17,000 inhabitants, it preserves a notable historic centre with its arcaded square and its civic tower, and has an economy tied to agriculture and to industry, especially railway manufacturing. Its plain favours cycling and outdoor activities. Savigliano was recognised by ACES Europe as European Town of Sport 2012, a title reserved for municipalities of fewer than 25,000 inhabitants, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
