Scafati is a city in the province of Salerno, in Campania, located in the plain of the river Sarno, very close to the ruins of Pompeii and at the foot of Vesuvius. With almost 49,000 inhabitants, it is an urban centre of the Neapolitan metropolitan area, in one of the most densely populated zones of southern Italy, with an economy tied to the agriculture of the fertile plain and to the canning industry. Scafati was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2016, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
