About the city
Schio is a city in the northern part of the Province of Vicenza, in Veneto, nestled between the Piccole Dolomiti and Monte Pasubio, close to the Venetian Dolomites. With just over 39,000 inhabitants, the city owes much of its urban character to the industrial revolution of the 19th century: Alessandro Rossi transformed Schio into one of Europe's leading woollen textile centres, building alongside his factories workers' housing, schools, and social facilities that anticipated the modern concept of workplace welfare. This historical legacy coexists with an exceptional natural heritage that attracts hikers, climbers, and mountain cyclists.
Sportingly, Schio is synonymous with excellence in women's basketball: Famila Basket Schio is Italy's most decorated club, with 14 league titles and regular participation in top-level European competitions. ACES Europe designated Schio European City of Sport 2023, an accolade validating public investment exceeding 8 million euros in sports facilities between 2015 and 2020, as well as a sports management model that integrates elite sport with sport for all and physical activity in the natural environment.
