About the territory
Singltrek pod Smrkem ('trails beneath Smrk') is a cross-border network of mountain bike trails on the northern side of the Jizera Mountains (Jizerské hory), at the foot of Mount Smrk, 1,124 metres high, between the Czech Republic and Poland. Its first 13 km loop was completed in autumn 2009, and the second stage, opened in 2012 with partial European Union funding through the Czech-Polish cross-border cooperation programme, added 43 km, 21 of them in Polish forests. The network has access points in the Czech municipalities of Nové Město pod Smrkem, Lázně Libverda and Hejnice, in the Frýdlant area, while on the Polish side the town of Świeradów-Zdrój joined the project; a non-profit company of the same name maintains and promotes it. According to the official Czech tourism portal, it comprises 55 km of single track, 70 km including connecting routes, and the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) named it one of the seven best mountain bike destinations in the world. Singltrek pod Smrkem was recognised by ACES Europe as European Community of Sport 2019, a category reserved for territories that bring several municipalities together around sport, and it appears in the ACES network with Czech and Polish representation.
