About the city

Tarazona, known as 'The City of the Renaissance', is a town in the Tarazona y el Moncayo comarca, in the province of Zaragoza, Aragon. With 10,756 inhabitants, it is the seat of the historic Diocese of Tarazona and preserves an exceptional monumental complex: its Gothic-Mudéjar cathedral, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, the episcopal palace, and the historic centre make up one of the best-preserved Renaissance heritage sites in medieval Aragon. Located at 480 metres altitude at the foot of the Moncayo Massif — Aragon's highest peak at 2,315 metres — the town enjoys a privileged natural setting for outdoor sport year-round.

In 2024, ACES Europe distinguished Tarazona with the title of European Sports Village, recognising its commitment to promoting grassroots sport, inclusion, and the use of its natural resources for citizen physical activity. This recognition comes in the context of Zaragoza, the provincial capital, holding the title of European Sports Capital 2026, making the entire province a benchmark for Aragonese sport in Europe. With 18 EWoS events registered in the ACES Activa system, Tarazona is one of Aragon's most active sporting hubs.
