About the city
Terra delle Gravine is a territorial community in Apulia, in southern Italy, named after the gravine, the deep canyons carved into the limestone of the Murge that descend towards the Gulf of Taranto. It is an area of strong landscape identity, above all in the province of Taranto, where the canyons hold caves inhabited since prehistory, rock-hewn churches and ecosystems with rare species, largely protected by the Terra delle Gravine regional natural park, created in 2005. Its ravines, woods and tracks favour hiking, cycling and climbing, and the territory gives its name to the trail race Puglia - Terra delle Gravine by UTMB. Terra delle Gravine has been designated by ACES Europe as European Community of Sport 2027, a category reserved for territories that bring together several municipalities around sport, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
