About the city
Terra di Incontro - Brianza Martesana is a territorial community in Lombardy, in northern Italy, that brings together several municipalities around sport in the Martesana area, north-east of Milan. The Martesana is a historical area, heir to the medieval County of Martesana, which gave its name to the Naviglio della Martesana, the canal that runs through it, and today forms the eastern part of the Metropolitan City of Milan, between the Lombard capital, the province of Monza and Brianza and that of Bergamo, with the river Adda on its eastern edge. It is a densely populated territory, well connected to Milan by rail and metro. The banks of the canal and of the Adda offer routes for cycling and walking. Terra di Incontro - Brianza Martesana has been designated by ACES Europe as European Community of Sport 2027, a category reserved for territories that bring together several municipalities around sport, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
