Three Borders

About the territory

Three Borders is a cross-border sporting community that ACES Europe lists across Italy, Austria and Slovenia, in the eastern Alps. Its name refers to the area where the borders of the three countries meet, around the mountain known in Italian as Monte Forno, in German as Dreiländereck and in Slovene as Peč, 1,508 metres high, which rises between Tarvisio, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Arnoldstein, in Carinthia, and Kranjska Gora, in Upper Carniola. It is mountain country: the Dreiländereck itself has eight lifts serving some 17 km of ski runs. Three Borders was recognised by ACES Europe as European Community of Sport 2014, a category reserved for territories that bring together several municipalities around sport, and it appears in the ACES network as a candidacy shared by Italy, Austria and Slovenia.
