About the city
Venaria Reale is a municipality of the Metropolitan City of Turin, located just 8 kilometres north-west of the Turin city centre, in Piedmont. With around 32,000 inhabitants, the city is world-renowned for La Venaria Reale, the sumptuous royal residence of the House of Savoy which, together with the other Savoyard residences of Piedmont, has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997. This palace and its extensive park represent one of the most important Baroque complexes in Europe and constitute the city's cultural and touristic axis.
In the sporting field, Venaria Reale was designated European City of Sport 2025 by ACES Europe, surpassing seven other Italian candidate cities—including Jesolo, Novara, Taranto, and Seregno—in recognition of its dedication to promoting sport as a means of health, social integration, education, and respect. The year 2025 was prolific in sporting events of various kinds, culminating in a grand Festa dello Sport on 6 February 2026, with which the city officially closed its term as European sporting capital, leaving a legacy of renewed infrastructure and a sporting culture more deeply rooted in the community.
