About the city
Ventimiglia is a coastal city in the province of Imperia, in Liguria, the last Italian city before the border with France, at the western end of the Riviera dei Fiori. With some 24,000 inhabitants, it is a border city of long history — it preserves remains of Roman Albintimilium — famous for its large weekly market, which draws many French visitors, and for the nearby Hanbury Botanical Gardens. Its coast and mild climate link it to water and outdoor sports. Ventimiglia was recognised by ACES Europe as European Town of Sport 2023, a title reserved for municipalities of fewer than 25,000 inhabitants, which places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
