About the city
Vercelli is a city in Piedmont, capital of its province, located in the plain between Turin and Milan, in the heart of the largest rice-growing area in Europe: the rice fields surrounding the city, flooded in spring, are a characteristic landscape of eastern Piedmont. With almost 46,000 inhabitants, it has a notable heritage, with the Basilica of Sant'Andrea, one of the first works of Gothic architecture in Italy. Its plain favours cycling and outdoor activities. Vercelli was recognised by ACES Europe as European City of Sport 2019, a title that places it within the broad Italian representation of the ACES network.
