About the city
Versalles is one of the most distinctive municipalities in northern Valle del Cauca, perched at 1,864 metres on the Western Andes and nicknamed 'Colombian Nativity and Paradise' for the arrangement of its houses on the slope, with the church at the top and the village descending like a nativity scene. Founded in 1894 by paisa settlers, it preserves an authentic urban landscape and rural setting where coffee, plantain and hillside crops set the rhythm of life. Its rural population density exceeds the urban, testament to its deeply peasant vocation.
