About the city

Zarzal is a municipality in northern Valle del Cauca situated on the banks of the Cauca River, with a fundamentally agricultural economy based on sugar cane cultivation, tropical fruit and livestock farming. Its strategic geographic position makes it a transit and connection point between the central and northern municipalities of Valle del Cauca, with a mean altitude of around 920 metres and a warm climate that favours both agricultural activities and active tourism.

Zarzal shares with the neighbouring municipality of Roldanillo the privilege of being at the heart of the most important paragliding corridor in Latin America. Its proximity to the launch sites and thermal zones of Roldanillo positions it as part of a world-class sports tourism ecosystem, where pilots and free-flight enthusiasts from more than 40 countries converge during the international season. This sporting dynamism forms part of the territorial identity of the municipality and articulates its participation in physical activity and citizen sport initiatives.
